National Youth Leadership Training or NYLT is a leadership development training program of the Boy Scouts of America conducted at the council level for youth. It is intended to be in-depth training covering a number of leadership ideas and skills for both Boy Scouts and Varsity Scouts.
National Youth Leader Training attendees are selected by their troop leaders
Dear Junior Leader,
Congratulations on being selected by your Troop to attend the Bay Area Council National Youth Leadership Training. The course is being held at Camp Karankawa from Noon on June 8 to 8:30 PM Friday evening, June 13, 2008.
During the week of the course you will have a chance to try out many new scoutcraft skills that you can use in the program of your home troop. Since you are a leader in your troop I assume you want to know how to do your leadership job better. The skills of leadership are an important part of the conference.
During the week you and other junior leaders from all over the Bay Area Council will be living, camping, and working as members of the same patrol and troop. A fine staff has been recruited to assist in the training.
You probably want to know what to bring. A list of required equipment is enclosed with this letter. We will also discuss the required equipment list at the orientation. If you miss the orientation or if you have any problem with the equipment list, ask your Scoutmaster for advice or feel free to call me.
Very important: Participant Orientation will be held Monday, May 12, 7:00PM, at the Friendswood United Methodist Church. The address is 204 W. Edgewood (FM 2351). We will meet in the old Sanctuary, the building nearest FM 2351. PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND. Your parents and Scoutmaster are invited as well. This will be a great opportunity to ask questions and turn in all the registration paperwork.
Also included with this letter are the NYLT Registration Form and a Personal Resource Questionnaire. Please complete these and return them to the Council office as soon as possible. If there is not a copy of either these forms included, this means that I already have the forms for you. You must bring a completed copy of your most recent Class 2 or Class 3 Personal Health and Medical Record form, No 34414 or 34412 to Camp as this is considered a long-term camp.
The course will be a busy place with lots of activities. For this reason, we must discourage visitors during the week. A telephone is available in the main section of Camp Karankawa, but due to its distance and your busy schedule I don’t expect it will get much use. It will be used only in extreme emergencies. The Camp Ranger’s phone number is (979) 354-3964 should your family wish to get a message to you during the course. I am very excited about this course. I know we will have a great week of Scouting. If you or your parents have any questions, please feel free to call me at (281) 996-0376 or email me at thehuntclub@sprintmail.com. I look forward to seeing you at the orientation!
Sincerely,
Mr. Stephen Hunt
